Holbox that means black hole in Yucatec language is a small island in Mexico. It’s in state of  Quintana Roo, located on the north coast of the Yucatan. I decide to go there when I was travelling between Riviera Maya in february 2019 ( Cancun, Tulum , Playa del Carmen ) .

How to arrive at Holbox to elope? wedding in Holbox

The island is separated from the mainland by 10 km of shallow lagoon that is home to flamingos, pelicans and other birdlife.

Holbox is a spectacular place, heavenly for me a small island with dirt roads and colorful things with a wonderful population.
But how can you get to Holbox?
The methods are essentially two by sea or by air. Choosing to fly to holbox especially if you do it directly to Cancun is the fastest choice but it can also be expensive. With about 30 minutes of flight you land on the island but it is really comfortable. If you decide to arrive by land, you can rent a car. We have done so starting from playa del Carmen we have traveled a road that is called a highway that is paid. With about 2 and a half hours we arrive in Chiquilà. In Chiquilà you take the official ferry, there are two companies that provide this service. We took a boat of local people who left long before the ferry which allowed us to see the sunrise and spend much less.

Once you arrive on the island, let yourself be amazed by the colors, the flavors, the music, the beach covered with shells.

In short, if you think of a heavenly place away from chaos why don’t you think of the island of Holbox? Although it is not easy to reach this wonderful corner of the world I have to tell you that there are couples who have chosen to get married or to make a small ceremony here.
